It’s Spring and the Crocuses are out but remember its only 281 sleeps until….

It’s only 281 sleeps until the Christmas Fair! Let’s make it the best fair with some serious forward planning. You may think me mad but some stalls like Jam and Preserves rely on your creative skills throughout the year.

The Jam & Preserves stall was a hit last year making £437! Thank you to all who made and donated produce, but could it do better? I think so, as last year we had almost no donations of summer fruit jams like Strawberry. My fault, as I forgot to remind you all in May. So, with that thought in mind I have been doing some research into which fruits are in season. January and February are a little sparse unless you have a secret barn full of apples and pears, or are lucky enough to get hold of some imported blood oranges cheaply. Blood Orange marmalade is much sweeter and less tangy than our traditional marmalades. However, March herald’s the beginning of the Rhubarb season. Can I inspire anyone to make some Rhubarb & Ginger Jam? Or to make the most of the last of the winter season veg and try a Beetroot relish? If I have inspired you please send some pictures of your bubbling pans or toped up jars!
