Choral Evensong is a beautiful and reflective service that has been sung in English cathedrals for centuries. It is led by the Cathedral Choir or, on occasion, visiting choirs, with the congregation invited to join in sung responses and hymns. The service follows a traditional structure of scripture readings, prayers, and choral music, offering a moment of stillness at the end of the day. As part of the daily rhythm of worship at Portsmouth Cathedral, Evensong showcases the richness of the English choral tradition and provides a space for contemplation and prayer.
Rules to Flourish By
A series of sermons by the Honorary Canons of Portsmouth Cathedral, reflecting on how to live well and flourish in faith.
The series will run through the summer at our 5.45pm Sunday Evensong from July 19 to August 30, with additional dates of 20 September and 15 November.
Each of our preachers will give their personal insights and suggestions, exploring how a spiritual framework need not be restrictive but can offer life and freedom.
