As many of us head off on holiday over the coming weeks, the work of the Roberts Centre continues, and this is often when support is needed most. Portsmouth Cathedral is proud to be a food donation point for the Centre, and we would love for our community to get behind this cause before the summer break. The election of new members of General Synod, has now begun and almost anyone who attends church regularly is likely to be eligible to stand. You don’t need any special skills or need to be a member of a church committee or know much about how the Church of General Synod operates.
Nominations open on August 14 and close on September 7. If you have any questions about standing for Synod, do speak to one of the Canons or to the diocesan returning officer, Philip Poulter.

The Cathedra (the Bishop's Chair) and two accompanying side chairs are currently away being reupholstered, with fabric matching the original, thanks to the generosity of a member of our congregation. We are very grateful for this wonderful gift and greatly appreciate this act of kindness. The Cathedra and chairs will be back by the end of July, and we look forward to welcoming them home looking resplendent once again.…
As part of the city-wide art trail, the Adopt South lion, Lion of Love Valen, will be located on Portsmouth Cathedral’s grounds, helping to bring colour, creativity and community spirit to Portsmouth while raising awareness of important local causes.

Last Sunday I was delighted to attend a special tea to recognise the positive impact volunteers bring to families and local organisations across the city. Hundreds of organisations had been asked to select just a few volunteers to represent them at this new event. Portsmouth Cathedral did our ballot using a virtual online hat, and I (Jude) and two other volunteers, Celia Johnson and Marian Wendon, were lucky enough to be chosen.

Three weeks ago, during the Celebration of Music at Portsmouth Cathedral marking Dr David Price’s 30 years in post, we launched our Choral Music Permanent Endowment to secure the future of music in worship for generations to come. The fund will support our choirs, scholarships, work with young people, and the care of our historic organ, ensuring that choral music remains at the heart of Cathedral life.
