Meet Adopt South’s “Lion of Love Valen” sculpture on Cathedral Green as part of the city-wide Pride of Portsmouth 100 art trail.
Designed by Hampshire-based artist Kimberley Nicolle, the vibrant lion is sponsored by Adopt South, the Regional Adoption Agency for Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton. The sculpture celebrates the love and commitment adoptive families give to their children, raising awareness of adoption and championing children’s identities and stories.
The Pride of Portsmouth 100 trail brings together artists, organisations and communities through a series of uniquely designed lion sculptures displayed across the city, marking a significant milestone in Portsmouth’s centenary celebrations.
The lion arrives on the South side of the green this Friday, ready for the trail to begin on Monday. From Monday, children will also be able to design their own lion using simple Portsmouth 100 Lion sheets, available at the Cathedral.
You can download the trail map at prideofportsmouth.co.uk/the-trail or buy a printed copy for £2 at Portsmouth Libraries. Please note: printed trail copies will not be sold at the Cathedral.
