Assistant Verger and Precinct Officer (maternity cover contract)

Portsmouth Cathedral is seeking an Assistant Verger and Precinct Officer to join our small, dedicated team on a full-time maternity cover contract for up to 12 months.

This varied and hands-on role supports the daily life of the Cathedral, including preparing for worship and special services, helping to deliver events, welcoming visitors, supporting volunteers, and assisting with the care, safety and security of the Cathedral, Cathedral House and precinct.

We are looking for someone practical, organised and welcoming, with good communication skills, attention to detail, and the flexibility to work across a rota that includes weekends, evenings and public holidays. Experience of verging or similar church support work, events or caretaking would be helpful, but a willingness to learn and sympathy with the Christian ethos of the Cathedral are equally important.
The role is 40 hours per week, based at Portsmouth Cathedral, with pay based on £13.54 per hour.
