The Holy Duster Volunteer role at Portsmouth Cathedral involves supporting the upkeep and presentation of the worship space by assisting with light cleaning and general maintenance tasks, including tidying, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and caring for pews, with optional brass polishing and reporting any maintenance issues to staff. Working under the guidance of the Lead Volunteer and Head Verger, volunteers help ensure the cathedral remains a clean, welcoming environment for worshippers and visitors. The role is suited to individuals aged 18 and over who are reliable, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and who have a friendly and approachable manner, with no requirement to be a practising Christian but with an expectation to respect the cathedral’s ethos. Volunteers typically contribute for around an hour on Monday mornings and are expected to follow cathedral policies, including safeguarding and data protection, while supporting the wider mission of the cathedral community.
