Elected Non-Executive Member of Chapter

Join Us in Shaping the Future of Portsmouth Cathedral

Portsmouth Cathedral – the Cathedral of the Sea – is seeking nominations for an Elected Non-Executive Member of Chapter, our governing body. This is a meaningful opportunity to help guide the mission, ministry, and strategic direction of a Cathedral community that is both deeply rooted in tradition and actively engaged with the present. As we look towards our centenary in 2027, we are committed to a vision that is inclusive, innovative and open to God's unfolding will.

The elected members of Chapter play a vital role in ensuring that the voice of the congregation and wider community is heard in our decision-making, while contributing fully as charity trustees. The role requires strategic thinking, a commitment to our values, and a willingness to work collaboratively to support our six key objectives – from worship and music to sustainability and community engagement. While no specific professional background is required, you’ll need the capacity to engage at board level and the enthusiasm to help shape the next chapter of our life together.

Eligibility includes being on the Cathedral’s Electoral Roll, and we warmly welcome nominations from people of all backgrounds who share our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and service. Trusteeship is a voluntary role, supported by a full induction and ongoing training, and involves attending meetings, preparing for discussions, and working alongside other Chapter members and staff.

Might you be called to serve in this way, or do you know someone who would bring wisdom, insight and a love for the Cathedral’s life? If so, we encourage you to explore this opportunity further. Join us in stewarding this place of worship, heritage and hope into its next hundred years.
