Activity Book Launched!

New Portsmouth Cathedral Children's Activity Book Launches today!

Portsmouth Cathedral is excited to announce the launch of its brand-new Portsmouth Cathedral Children's Activity Book, a fun-filled and educational guide designed especially for children and families. Created in collaboration with Designed by Esther, the book will be available from 8 April, offering an engaging way for young visitors to explore the Cathedral’s rich history through hands-on activities.

The Cathedral has a long and fascinating history, dating back to 1180, and this book brings that past to life in an accessible and enjoyable way. The Dean of Portsmouth, The Very Reverend Dr Anthony Cane, said:“We are delighted to launch this wonderful activity book, which makes the history and beauty of Portsmouth Cathedral accessible to children and families in an engaging and interactive way. We hope it will inspire curiosity and a sense of adventure in all who use it.”

Packed with puzzles, games, word searches, colouring pages, and other interactive content, the Portsmouth Cathedral Children's Activity Book takes young readers on an exciting journey through time. They will uncover fascinating stories, learn about key historical moments, and engage in creative activities that bring the Cathedral to life. The book is designed to ensure children not only learn about the Cathedral’s heritage but also enjoy the process with a sense of fun and discovery.

A highlight of the book is the introduction of Sammy the Seagull, a friendly character who appears throughout the pages, challenging young readers to find them as they explore. This engaging feature ensures that every page is an adventure, keeping children entertained while they learn. Rayne Skora, Visitor Experience Manager, added: “Whether you are a local resident or a curious visitor, the Portsmouth Cathedral Children's Activity Book offers a fresh and exciting way for children to experience one of Portsmouth’s most iconic landmarks. We hope families will find it a fantastic companion during their visit, encouraging exploration and engagement with the Cathedral’s many hidden treasures.”

Bringing the book to life was a rewarding experience for its designer. Esther Johnson, the creative behind Designed by Esther, said: “It has been a joy to create this book, weaving together the Cathedral’s incredible history with fun activities that bring it to life for children and families. I hope everyone who picks up a copy enjoys exploring as much as I enjoyed designing it!”

The Portsmouth Cathedral Children's Activity Book will be available to purchase from 8 April at the Cathedral gift shop and online. Families are encouraged to pick up a copy and embark on their own adventure through time, discovering the Cathedral’s stories in an interactive and exciting way.
