There are worse things than death - a time to die (in Becket Hall)

  • Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral (map)

A seminar comprising short presentations from a range of professionals speaking from differing perspectives, followed by open discussion.  Death obviously means very different things to different people; everything from a failure to extend life at considerable cost to acceptance that the 'time has come'.

The seminar will be chaired by Dr Amanda Freeman - Consultant Paediatrician and Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.  It will open with a case presentation given by Dr Huw Jones - Consultant in Palliative Medicine.  This will be followed by four short presentations given by:

The Very Reverend David Brindley - Dean of Portsmouth,  Dr Paul Beadon - Lead Clinical Psychologist Rowans Psychology & Bereavement Service,  David Carpenter - Senior Lecturer in Moral and Political Philosophy, University of Portsmouth and  Dr Mark Roland - Associate Medical Director, Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.
