Chris McKay from The British Horologist Society will talk about "The Bible in Clocks and Watches".

The decoration of clocks and watches over the ages has been inspired by many sources; one is the Bible.  Scenes from both Old and New testaments have been depicted on 16th century watch cases in coloured enamels through to painted clock dials of the 19th century.  The talk illustrates some of these pieces and goes on to look at mechanical automata that represent a Biblical theme in motion.  The talk will conclude with an explanation of the church calendar, the date of Easter and why the Tax Year begins on the 6th April.
