Discovering the Guildhall Community Talk in Becket Hall

Portsmouth Guildhall (The Guildhall Trust), are currently undertaking a project called Discovering the Guildhall. This is an exciting heritage project designed to gather, share and bring to life people’s memories and the historic events that surround this iconic building and venue. The Guildhall has received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (formerly the Heritage Lottery Fund) to undertake this project.

As part of this project we have been recording older people’s memories, collecting archive material, researching the building and associated events. We have undertaken a range of outreach workshops with older people and community groups. 50 oral history interviews have been recorded from a wide range of people, including staff, past and present, people who have attended concerts, former Lord Mayors and others with links to the building. These interviews will become part of a digital archive.

Discovering the Guildhall will create the Guildhall’s archive, culminating in two short documentary films and an exhibition, where we intent to include work created by schools and community groups. The exhibition will take place within the Guildhall, opening in January 2020.

All welcome.
