About Sachin:

Born in Derby, Sachin Gunga trained as a chorister in Derby Cathedral Choir and studied organ under Dr Tom Corfield. He went on to read Classics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. During his time there he was heavily involved in the musical activities of the college, from orchestral concerts to open mic nights. After graduating in 2007, he spent a year as organist of Trinity Hall chapel, before going on to study a Master’s degree at the Birmingham Conservatoire. He subsequently held organ scholarships at Truro Cathedral and Wells Cathedral, completing his ARCO diploma in 2011.

Sachin’s first Assistant Organist position was at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, where, in addition to accompanying cathedral services, he set up a close-harmony group called The Low Rangers. After spending ten months at Lincoln Cathedral as Acting Assistant Director of Music, he became Assistant Director of Music at Wakefield Cathedral in 2015. Whilst in Yorkshire he also directed a local chamber choir, St Peter’s Consort, and taught piano at the local grammar school.

Sachin has been Sub-Organist of Portsmouth Cathedral since January 2018, as well as School Organist of The Portsmouth Grammar School. He recently accompanied the Cathedral Choir live on BBC Radio 3, and on a new CD of Christmas music, Verbum Caro Factum Est (Herald).

He still enjoys singing, and maintains an interest in languages.
