The Renaissance Choir
The Renaissance Choir is a chamber choir of around 34 singers based in Hampshire and West Sussex. It was formed in 1976 with a vision to put the beautiful music of the Renaissance period at the heart of its repertoire. Their conductor, Peter Gambie, has led the choir since 1992.
The choir regularly performs in venues in Portsmouth and Petersfield as well as touring either UK or European destinations regularly. They have been privileged to sing in some iconic venues including St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the cathedral In Santiago da Compostela and Notre Dame, Paris. The choir’s adventurous repertoire ranges from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works, generally singing a cappella.
Portsmouth Cathedral Choir

The choir also sings at a range of special events across Hampshire as well as having toured countries such as Belgium, France, Sweden and Germany. In the UK the choir has also sung at St Paul’s Cathedral, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s private chapel in Windsor Castle as well as Westminster Abbey as well as regularly broadcasting on BBC television and radio.
The Portsmouth Cathedral Choir has a passion for singing and offers a thriving and diverse music programme.
