Sustainability September: Home Energy Audit
Tired of ever increasing energy bills? Worried about the impact burning unnecessary fuels is having on the environment? Well here is the opportunity, during Sustainability September, to take a practical look at our own energy use and finds ways to decrease our impact on the climate (and our energy bills).
In advance of a visit from the City’s Energy Services team on Sunday, 24th September we are encouraging all members of the congregation to take the opportunity to use the short Home Energy Audit Form to review ways in which you may take steps in your own home to cut your energy bills over this coming winter.
The Home Energy Audit asks us to review a few simple things that can have a dramtic effect on your energy usage (and bills). So taking note of the following:
• The number of LED bulbs in your home?
• What are your normal heating setting and do you change them depending on the time of day? Is it different in rooms that you do not regularly use?
• Any draughty door or windows?
• How well insulated in your attic?
• Review your energy bills to find high usage applicances (Need a smart meter to do this)
Then on Sunday, 24th September please bring this informaiton along with you and meet with the Council’s Energy Service Team after the 9:30am and 11am services. The Energy Team will be able to provide some free advice on the day based upon the information you provide. Also you can see if you are eligible for a free home visit from an adviser who may be able to help with small measure such as some LED light bulbs or draught proofing.
We are really very grateful that the City’s Energy team has agreed to come visit us on Sunday, 24thSeptember. As well as providing practical advice for us all after the 9:30am and 11am services, the City’s Head of Energy Services, Gareth Williams, along with our very own Dr Nick Pepin, Lay Clerk and leading authority on Climate Change, will be interviewed during the 9:30am and 11am services.
Chief Operating Officer Richard says, “Our own experience here at the Cathedral of making very inexpensive changes has reduced our carbon footprint by 55% showing that each seemingly little change can lead to a step change in decreasing energy use. A win for the environment and a significant decrease in energy use.”
Paper copies of the Energy Audit form are also available in the Welcome area or online.
