Your support ensures Portsmouth Cathedral is open to all

We are proud to be open to all and free to visit. People join us for many reasons, from prayer and contemplation, to exploring our heritage, participating in workshops, attending concerts, or simply out of curiosity. Whatever the reason, we offer the same warm welcome to everyone and with running costs of £13,000 a week, it is your generous support that continues to make it possible for us to open our doors to all.

Your support inspires children

Over 1,000 children from Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and south-east Hampshire are inspired by our creative workshops each year. We work with schools in some of the most deprived boroughs in England, encouraging children to learn about prayer, spirituality and heritage in a friendly and inclusive space.

Your support conserves our heritage

Our Grade 1 listed cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in Portsmouth. Our monuments, stained glass, treasures and even the building itself tell the story of our city and those that lived and worked here through the ages. Each year we undertake important works to conserve the Cathedral, and it is your support that secures our building for future generations.

Your support makes music

Every week our choirs sing transcendent and uplifting music as part of our regular pattern of worship, clocking up over 550 hours of singing a year. Each year we train over 50 choristers

If you are a UK taxpayer you can make your donation go even further by adding Gift Aid. For every £1 you donate we are able to claim 25p from the Government.

When you make a commitment to Portsmouth Cathedral, we make this commitment to you:

We will be honest, truthful, transparent and deal with you with integrity;
We will acknowledge your donation promptly, handle it responsibly and be open and clear about how we use it;
We will keep you up to date about the project that you are supporting in a transparent manner. You can contact us at any time to change how we communicate with you;
We will respect your rights and privacy. We will never sell your personal data and will only release details of your gift with your consent or if disclosure is required by law;
We will not put undue pressure on you to make a gift and we will never encourage you in any way to change an existing charitable donation to another fundraising organisation;
If you do not want to give or wish to cease giving, we will respect your decision;
We will comply with all domestic and international legislation, including Tax legislation, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002;
We will respond to any concerns you might have swiftly and efficiently.

We value each member of the Portsmouth Cathedral community and so we also make this commitment to all individual supporters of the Cathedral:

The only members of the Cathedral staff who will know the details of your donation will be the Head of Fundraising and Events, the Chief Operating Officer, the Finance Officer (to process your donation), the Gift Aid volunteer (to process Gift Aid if applicable) and the Dean’s Executive Assistant unless you let us know otherwise;
The Cathedral Clergy will not be informed about the details of your gift, unless you let us know otherwise;
The Dean may write to thank you for your support but will not know the details of your donation. You can contact us at any time if you would prefer the Dean not to know that you have made a donation.
